CM Murad Ali Shah Leads High-Level Meeting to Overhaul Healthcare System

Karachi Web Desk – Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah chaired a crucial meeting on healthcare performance indicators, aiming to strengthen the province’s medical infrastructure and improve healthcare services.

Key Figures Attend High-Priority Health Meeting

The meeting brought together top officials, including Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, Ombudsman Sindh Sohail Rajput, Principal Secretary Agha Wasif, Planning & Development Chairman Najam Shah, Finance Secretary Fayaz Jatoi, Health Secretary Rehan Baloch, and Population Secretary Hafiz Abbasi.

Aiming for an Efficient Healthcare System

During the session, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of reviewing key healthcare performance indicators to address gaps and improve public health services. “Assessing these indicators will allow us to allocate resources effectively and ensure healthcare accessibility where it is most needed,” he stated.

Vaccination Coverage to be Boosted to 95%

Currently, Sindh’s routine immunization coverage stands at 69%. CM Murad Ali Shah directed officials to increase it to 95% to curb preventable diseases.

Enhancing Lady Health Workers’ Outreach

At present, Lady Health Workers (LHWs) cover only 41% of the population. The Chief Minister stressed the need to raise this outreach to 80%, ensuring that every 1,200 people have access to at least one LHW.

Major Healthcare Projects Announced

Several ambitious healthcare initiatives were approved:

  • Construction of a Medical and Surgical Tower at Karachi’s Civil Hospital.
  • Enhancement of the Health Information System (HIS) for improved data management and healthcare monitoring.

Expanding Nursing Workforce and Technical Staff

With one nurse currently serving every 42,000 people, the Chief Minister called for an urgent recruitment drive to bridge this gap. Additionally, he approved the hiring of 3,500 vaccinators and technical staff to support immunization programs and health services.

Strengthening Nutrition and Screening Services

To tackle malnutrition, the government will establish 11 Nutrition Stabilization Centers and revamp 714 Outpatient Therapeutic Program sites. Furthermore, 125 new non-communicable disease screening units will be improved, offering secondary-level health services at district, taluka, and rural health centers.

CM Murad Ali Shah reiterated his commitment to transforming Sindh’s healthcare sector, ensuring efficient service delivery and accessible medical care for all residents. These bold initiatives mark a significant step toward a more robust and inclusive healthcare system in the province.
