Maryam Nawaz Announces One-Window Operation for Chinese Companies in Punjab
At an investment conference chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, over 60 prominent companies from China and Hong Kong participated to explore investment opportunities. During her visit to China, Maryam Nawaz announced the establishment of a working group, appointment of focal persons, and setup of a help desk to facilitate Chinese companies through a one-window operation in Punjab.
Key Highlights of the Conference
Representatives of leading Chinese companies presented detailed briefings about their organizations. Proposals and recommendations related to the Pak-China Free Trade Agreement were also reviewed during the conference.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz extended an invitation to Chinese technology firms to start operations in Punjab. In response, these companies expressed keen interest in investing in the province. She declared the creation of a working group, appointment of a focal person, and establishment of a help desk to ensure smooth collaboration.
One-Window Operation for Chinese Companies
In a major step to attract foreign investment, a one-window operation facility was decided upon for Chinese companies. The Chief Minister referred to Punjab as a “Land of Opportunity” for international investors and expressed gratitude to the participants for attending the investment conference.
She also emphasized her government’s environmental commitment, citing the launch of a “No to Plastic” campaign aimed at banning the sale and production of harmful plastic materials.
Green and Modern Punjab Initiatives
Maryam Nawaz outlined several initiatives under the “Clean Punjab” campaign, including the launch of a zero-waste mission and projects to convert waste into renewable energy. She welcomed partnerships with Chinese companies for these projects and highlighted efforts to modernize agriculture through mechanization.
She noted that Punjab is focusing on renewable energy sources like wind and solar power to achieve affordable electricity. The province is also introducing industrial reforms to improve the ecosystem and has seen a rising demand for solar energy.
Solarization and Agricultural Modernization
The Chief Minister announced the launch of a mega solarization project, inviting Chinese companies to collaborate. She emphasized opportunities in agriculture sub-sectors, including machinery manufacturing, food processing, and hybrid seed development, which could benefit from shared expertise.
Youth and Technology Development
Maryam Nawaz highlighted Punjab’s valuable human resource, especially its young industrial workforce, and expressed interest in adopting bio and hydrogen technologies. She stressed the need for innovation in IT, encouraging investment in e-commerce, incubator centers, and e-learning. Plans were also shared to develop a state-of-the-art IT city, inviting Chinese companies to invest in these areas.
Strengthening Pakistan-China Relations
The Chief Minister praised the encouraging response from Chinese investors, underscoring the significance of Pakistan as a gateway to Central Asia, the Middle East, and other regions. She described Pakistan as an essential part of the global trade route.
Revolutionary Changes in Agriculture and Healthcare
Maryam Nawaz announced plans to benefit from China’s advanced healthcare system for telemedicine techniques and to revolutionize agriculture through nanotechnology. She emphasized introducing water-efficient irrigation systems to support Punjab’s agricultural growth.
