New Front Opens Between PPP and PML-N
Islamabad Web Desk: A new front has emerged between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) over the failure to convene the Council of Common Interests (CCI) meeting. The issue has intensified, with both sides vigorously presenting their positions during the National Assembly session.
The PPP has accused the PML-N-led government of repeatedly violating the Constitution. PPP spokesperson Shazia Marri stated that the government is constitutionally obligated to convene a CCI meeting every 90 days.
She emphasized that no such meeting has been called in the government’s initial 300 days.
Shazia Marri further alleged that the federal government has reduced the production of affordable natural gas while increasing the import of expensive liquefied natural gas (LNG). “We will not allow the burden of costly imported LNG to fall on the people,” she declared.
Following PPP’s protest, the government sought support from coalition partners and opposition members to implement a policy for determining average gas prices. This policy aims to address the country’s growing gas crisis by integrating prices from all three sources: imports, pipeline supply, and wellhead production.
Responding to concerns raised by senior PPP parliamentarian Naveed Qamar regarding the gas crisis, Petroleum Minister Dr. Musadik Malik shifted the blame onto the caretaker government.
