Farmers Protest Against Modi Government’s Policies: Punjab Shutdown Following “Delhi Chalo” and “Rail Roko” Campaigns.

Web Desk: Farmers have announced a blockade at 200 locations and disruption of railway tracks at 50 points.

The nationwide protest against the Modi government’s farmer-unfriendly policies continues in India. According to Indian media, farmers in the states of Haryana and Punjab are persistently fighting for their rights. After negotiations between farmer unions and the government failed, the “Delhi Chalo” campaign transformed into a “Rail Roko” movement, culminating in today’s call for a complete shutdown of Punjab.

The Punjab shutdown, called by the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and Kisan Sangathan Morcha, is in support of Jagjit Singh Dalewal, who has been on a hunger strike for over a month. The shutdown is set to last from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., during which all roads are blocked, markets and business centers are closed, and traffic has vanished from the streets.

The state government has ramped up security, deploying additional forces at key locations. Farmers have also planned sit-ins at toll plazas. Punjab University and Guru Nanak University have postponed exams in response to the protest.

In solidarity with the shutdown, fruit and vegetable supplies to markets have been suspended, and milk vendors will not be operating. Private and public buses have ceased running as farmer unions execute their plan to block roads at 200 points and railway tracks at 50 locations.

Farmers are demanding the implementation of 13 agricultural reforms, including legal guarantees for all crop prices.
