Sindh Government to Provide Solar Energy to 200,000 Homes with World Bank Support

Karachi Web Desk: In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at promoting sustainable energy, Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah chaired a high-level meeting focused on providing solar energy to 200,000 households with the support of the World Bank. The meeting, held at the Department of Energy office, centered on developing a streamlined strategy for the distribution of solar systems.

The World Bank delegation included Senior Energy Specialist Dmytro Glazkov, Energy Specialist Manahil Raza, and Consultant Abrar Khattak. From the Sindh Energy Department, Secretary Musaddiq Ahmed Khan, Project Director for Sindh Solar Energy Program Mahfooz Ahmed Qazi, and Strategic Advisor Sonia Soomro participated. Heads of various solar distribution companies were also in attendance.

During the meeting, Minister Nasir Hussain Shah emphasized the need for an efficient and user-friendly solar distribution process. He instructed the World Bank team and distribution companies to ensure that the initiative is implemented swiftly and transparently.

The minister also stressed the importance of accelerating the project to bring tangible benefits to the public within three months. He directed stakeholders to maintain strict adherence to merit and fairness in every aspect of the project.

Highlighting the significance of the initiative, Minister Shah reiterated the Sindh government’s commitment to aligning the project with the vision and directives of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. “This project must be completed within the stipulated timeline, and any challenges must be promptly communicated for resolution,” he stated.

The meeting concluded with a collective commitment to making solar energy accessible to underserved households across Sindh, reflecting the government’s focus on sustainable development and energy equity.

This initiative is a significant step toward empowering communities with renewable energy, reducing dependency on conventional power sources, and contributing to environmental conservation.
