Hyderabad Hosts Ayaz Festival Honoring Progressive Poet Sheikh Ayaz
The Ayaz Festival, named after the renowned progressive and enlightened poet Sheikh Ayaz, has commenced in Hyderabad. The event was inaugurated by Sindh’s Provincial Minister for Culture and Tourism, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah.
The festival features sessions on various topics, focusing on Sheikh Ayaz’s life, literary contributions, and influence. Writers, intellectuals, and poets from across Sindh are participating in this cultural celebration.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Dr. Irfana Mallah, Amar Sindhu, and the Deputy Commissioner of Hyderabad, alongside other organizers. Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah also visited a photography exhibition displayed at the event.
Highlighting the legacy of Sheikh Ayaz, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah remarked, “Sheikh Ayaz is not just a name; he represents an enlightened and progressive way of thinking. During times of dictatorship and political imprisonment, Ayaz embodied the spirit of Mansur. His works, along with those of Faiz Ahmed Faiz, played a vital role in both literary and political resistance.”

Despite facing restrictions and hardships, their words became a beacon of struggle and perseverance. Shah further stated, “Ayaz’s message transcends Sindh; it resonates globally. He is a role model for the youth of Sindh, with his writings—ranging from poetry and essays to historical accounts—offering profound messages.”
Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah concluded by saying, “Sheikh Ayaz belongs to every progressive thinker; his legacy continues to inspire and guide generations.”
