Karachi Web Desk: The much-awaited Phase 2 of the Bhutto Expressway is set to open for public use in April, announced Sindh Minister for Local Government, Saeed Ghani. Spanning 15 kilometers, this phase includes a groundbreaking 4-kilometer overhead bridge—the longest in Karachi’s history—featuring the city’s largest-ever installed girders.
The entire Bhutto Expressway project, stretching 36 kilometers and costing approximately PKR 54 billion, is expected to be fully operational by December 2025.
Project Update and Inspection
Speaking to the media during his site visit on Tuesday, Saeed Ghani provided updates on the construction progress. Accompanied by key officials, including Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Syed Waqar Mehdi, Ali Rashdi, Raza Haroon, and Project Director Niaz Soomro, the minister reviewed the ongoing heavy construction work and received a comprehensive briefing on the developments.
Ghani confirmed that Phase 2, which includes a major interchange, is nearing completion and will be inaugurated in April. He acknowledged that the project faced minor delays due to Ramadan and Eid holidays but reassured that the final completion timeline remains unchanged—December 2025.
A Milestone for Karachi’s Infrastructure
The project’s significance lies in its ability to improve connectivity within Karachi and beyond. With a 4-kilometer-long overhead bridge spanning the railway lines and the Quaidabad Flyover, Phase 2 will facilitate smoother and faster travel between Jam Sadiq Bridge and Quaidabad.
Highlighting the efficiency of the new route, Ghani stated, “We covered the 15-kilometer stretch in just 11 minutes, showcasing the expressway’s potential to significantly reduce travel time. Once fully completed, the expressway will provide seamless access to Thatta and Malir, greatly benefiting commuters.”
Commitment to Timely Completion
Despite the scale and complexity of the project, the Sindh government remains committed to completing the expressway within the allocated budget of PKR 54 billion. Ghani reassured that there are no cost overruns and that the project will be delivered as planned.
The Bhutto Expressway stands as a testament to Karachi’s evolving infrastructure landscape, promising improved connectivity, reduced congestion, and a smoother transit experience for residents and travelers alike.
