Bilawal Bhutto Urges Government to Address Karachi's Water Crisis

Karachi, Pakistan Web Desk – Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has called on the federal government to prioritize Karachi’s pressing water issues, accusing it of treating Sindh like a “stepchild.”

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Phase One of the Malir Expressway, Bilawal highlighted his party’s ongoing commitment to Karachi’s development, emphasizing the legacy of his family. Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto revolutionized the city’s infrastructure and employment landscape,” he said.

Bilawal commended the Sindh government for launching significant projects like the Malir Expressway through public-private partnerships (PPP), ensuring both public benefit and economic viability for investors. Notably, he paid the toll fee of PKR 100 himself, urging authorities to keep the charges affordable.

Focus on Public-Private Partnerships

Bilawal stressed the importance of public-private partnerships, saying, “To address Karachi’s challenges, collaboration with the private sector is crucial. Business stakeholders must see mutual benefits to actively engage in such initiatives.” He hailed the success of current partnerships, stating they have brought meaningful progress to Karachi.

Karachi’s Water Crisis

Turning to Karachi’s water shortage, Bilawal acknowledged the longstanding issue dating back to former Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah’s tenure. He urged his government to take immediate action, proposing solutions like establishing green energy parks under the PPP model.

Sindh Deserves Fair Treatment

Bilawal criticized the federal government for neglecting Sindh, alleging discrimination in resource allocation. “Sindh has always faced stepmotherly treatment. The province deserves its fair share of resources, especially during challenging times,” he remarked.

Development Milestones

During the ceremony, Bilawal personally drove along the newly inaugurated section of the expressway from Qayyumabad to Shah Faisal Colony, paying homage to his party’s contributions to Karachi. The expressway has been renamed “Shahrah-e-Bhutto” in honor of the Bhutto family’s enduring legacy.

Bilawal ended his address with a call to action: “Let’s unite to transform Karachi into a city of progress and opportunity. No leader has provided Karachi with as many resources as President Asif Ali Zardari did. Together, we can continue to drive the city’s growth.”

Conclusion

The PPP leader’s speech underscored the need for unity, innovative partnerships, and equitable governance to address Karachi’s issues and foster its development. With initiatives like the Malir Expressway, Sindh aims to set a precedent for sustainable urban growth in Pakistan.
