Civil Disobedience Still Unclear, Awaiting Clear Directives: Ali Amin Gandapur
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur stated that the decision to launch a civil disobedience movement rests with PTI founder Imran Khan. He assured that any decision made by Khan would be implemented in its entirety.
Speaking to the media in Peshawar, Gandapur highlighted the challenges faced by the province due to the absence of PTI’s government at the federal level. He mentioned ongoing difficulties in securing funds owed to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from the federal government but expressed determination to resolve these issues.
The Chief Minister emphasized that progress was evident in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with increasing revenue and successful resolution of public issues. He noted that under the IMF program, KP had demonstrated the best performance among provinces. The provincial government was working to improve law and order, control terrorism, and acknowledged the sacrifices made by security forces in combating terror.
On Civil Disobedience Movement
When asked about the civil disobedience movement, Gandapur clarified that the initiative was announced by PTI’s founder, not by him. He reiterated that the party would follow whatever decision is made regarding the movement but admitted that the matter remained unclear. “We are awaiting clear guidelines on how the movement will proceed, its phases, and its initiation,” he added.
Increased Public Support
Gandapur remarked that his public engagements consistently draw larger crowds. Referring to clashes with law enforcement, he stated, “Tear gas feels like perfume to us now. We’ve lost 12 of our people, and some are reluctant to show their support due to fear.”
Terrorism and Relations with Afghanistan
Addressing questions about terrorism originating from Afghanistan, Gandapur stressed the importance of dialogue with the neighboring country. He explained that terrorists crossing the border become unreachable for security forces, creating significant challenges. While previously targeting other parts of the country, terrorists are now being effectively countered in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he said.
Gandapur acknowledged Afghanistan as an unavoidable neighbor, accepted globally. He insisted that peace in the province could not be achieved without negotiations with Afghanistan.
The Chief Minister concluded by reiterating the province’s commitment to maintaining security, combating terrorism, and ensuring progress for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
