Sukkur Web Desk: Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, accompanied by Speaker Sindh Assembly Awais Qadir Shah, provincial ministers Nasir Hussain Shah, Muhammad Bakhsh Mehr, Mukesh Kumar Chawla, and others, visited the Sukkur Sports Complex.

The Chief Minister reviewed the development work underway at the complex, according to a spokesperson. During the visit, Secretary of the Complex, Aleem Lashari, briefed the Chief Minister about the project’s progress.

The construction of the Sukkur Sports Complex is 80% complete, said Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. He noted that the primary construction work has been finished, and the finishing touches are currently being finalized.

The complex will feature facilities for cricket, football, squash, tennis, volleyball, and various other sports, stated the Chief Minister.

He also recalled the historical significance of the project, mentioning that on April 5, 1996, the late Prime Minister Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto visited Sukkur and laid the foundation stone of the sports complex in the presence of Syed Khursheed Shah.

The scheme, initiated under the Pakistan Sports Boards Islamabad, was approved during Benazir Bhutto’s tenure. Following the 18th Constitutional Amendment, the project was transferred to the provincial government in 2021, said Syed Murad Ali Shah.

The Sindh Planning and Development Department was directed to prepare revised drawings for the project, ensuring it met contemporary needs. The scheme for the construction of the sports complex has been administratively approved and is being utilized effectively, the Chief Minister added.

The Sukkur Sports Complex will host both national and international sporting events. It will benefit athletes not only from Sukkur but from across the Sindh province, he concluded.
