Karachi, Web Desk: March 6, 2025 – Excitement is building as Karachi prepares to host the 35th National Games from May 1 to May 9, featuring over 10,000 athletes and officials from across Pakistan. Meanwhile, adventure enthusiasts are in for a thrilling experience as the Thar Jeep Rally is set to take place in Mithi from April 10 to April 13.
Sardar Muhammad Bux Khan Mahar, Sindh’s Minister for Sports, made the official announcement during a press conference, revealing that the opening and closing ceremonies of the National Games will be graced by the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan. The grand event will be spread across 21 venues in Karachi, hosting competitions in 34 different sports categories.
Massive Participation from Across Pakistan
The National Games will bring together teams from Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Additionally, several departmental teams will compete, including squads from Pakistan Army, Air Force, Navy, WAPDA, Railways, Police, and the Higher Education Commission.
The event will see participation from 2,760 provincial athletes, 5,600 departmental athletes, along with 1,200 technical officials and 132 traditional sports players.
Hosting the National Games in Sindh after 18 years marks a significant achievement. The Olympic Committee has finalized the venues, and the Abdul Sattar Edhi Hockey Stadium will serve as the stage for the grand opening and closing ceremonies. The games will be held under strict security protocols to ensure a smooth and safe experience for all.
Thar Jeep Rally Set to Thrill Motorsports Fans
Alongside the National Games, Pakistan’s motorsports scene is set to heat up as the Thar Jeep Rally takes place in Mithi from April 10 to April 13. The event will feature competitions across 10 racing categories, with over 60 professional drivers ready to rev their engines.
Adding to the excitement, a bike category will also be included, allowing skilled riders to showcase their talent in the challenging desert terrain. Former Provincial Minister Nadir Magsi expressed enthusiasm about the event, stating that the race was initially planned for February but was rescheduled due to Ramadan. He also hinted at introducing a truck racing category in the future to further elevate the competition.
Sindh Government’s Commitment to Sports Development
The Sindh Government has successfully organized the Thar Jeep Rally twice before, but last year’s event was postponed due to the general elections. Officials, including Sindh Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla, Sports Secretary Abdul Aleem Lashari, and Sindh Olympic Association Secretary Ahmed Ali Rajput, were also present at the press conference to discuss preparations.
