Motorways to Launch Pilot Bike Surveillance Service

Motorways to Launch Pilot Bike Surveillance Service

The Federal Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, has announced plans to initiate a pilot project introducing a motorbike surveillance service on motorways to enhance security and monitoring. Under this initiative, between 30 to 35 motorbikes will patrol various sectors of the motorway simultaneously, ensuring comprehensive oversight.

In his directives, the minister emphasized that the motorway police should begin the service utilizing their existing resources during the initial phase, with plans for future expansion. He also stressed the importance of collaboration among the National Highway Authority (NHA), Motorway Police, Frontier Works Organization (FWO), and district police to ensure coordinated and effective measures.

Tackling Theft and Enhancing Security

Abdul Aleem Khan highlighted the urgent need for a robust strategy to curb theft of the protective fences surrounding motorways. He proposed amendments to existing laws to grant motorway police expanded authority, enabling them to take greater responsibility for public safety.

The minister urged the motorway police to adopt mechanisms that maximize the safety of travelers and pinpoint areas with frequent criminal activity or fence theft incidents. He made it clear that the NHA officers and motorway police would be held accountable for thefts in their respective areas.

Steps Towards Safety and Accountability

For areas where fences have been damaged or stolen, the minister directed the installation of new fencing and called for strict follow-ups on theft cases in collaboration with local police. He tasked the Inspector General of Motorway Police with ensuring thorough investigation and prosecution of such cases.

Abdul Aleem Khan also instructed the Secretary of Communications to submit a comprehensive report on the coordinated measures within a week. The goal, he stressed, is to make travel on motorways safer and more secure for citizens.
