Karachi, Web Desk – In a significant diplomatic engagement, the Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, met with Rwanda’s High Commissioner, Ms. Harerimana Fatao, to discuss bilateral relations, trade opportunities, and matters of mutual interest.
Historical Ties and Diplomatic Relations
Chief Minister Shah highlighted that Pakistan and Rwanda have shared diplomatic relations since 1962, fostering mutual cooperation in various sectors. He emphasized the need to further strengthen these ties by enhancing trade and investment between the two nations.
Current Trade Landscape
“Pakistan exports rice and medical supplies to Rwanda, but there is immense potential for growth,” noted the Chief Minister. He urged for more direct trade collaborations to eliminate intermediaries and maximize benefits for both countries.
Ms. Harerimana Fatao revealed that Rwanda currently exports 45% of its tea to Pakistan through third-party channels. She emphasized the advantages of establishing direct trade links, which could significantly boost economic exchanges.
Investment Opportunities in Sindh
Rwanda’s High Commissioner praised Sindh’s potential as a hub for international investment. “There are vast opportunities for investors in Sindh, and I am here in Karachi to explore ways to enhance trade relations,” she said. Ms. Fatao further shared Rwanda’s interest in launching its national airline in Pakistan, a move that could improve connectivity and facilitate business growth.
A Call for Collaboration
Acknowledging the presence of approximately 600 Pakistani nationals currently residing in Rwanda, the High Commissioner stressed the importance of stronger bilateral ties. In response, Chief Minister Shah extended an invitation to Rwandan investors to visit Karachi and explore opportunities in various sectors.
