Progress in Kurram Dispute: Jirga Reaches Consensus on Major Issues

PeshawarWeb Desk:
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Advisor on Information, Barrister Dr. Saif, has stated that a Jirga (tribal council) deliberating the resolution of the Kurram dispute continued late into the night. General consensus has been reached between the two parties, but one party has requested a two-day break to consult on a few remaining points.

In a statement issued from Peshawar, Dr. Saif mentioned that the Jirga convened in Kohat to address the Kurram dispute, where most issues were resolved through mutual agreement. However, one party asked for two days to consult its community leaders on some specific matters.

Dr. Saif explained that the Sunni faction requested time to consult their elders and the public, and the Jirga granted this request after discussions. The Jirga will reconvene on Tuesday after the two-day pause.

He noted that consensus has already been achieved on all major points, and once consultations are completed, the agreement will be signed.

Dr. Saif emphasized that, in line with the decisions of the Apex Committee, the removal of bunkers and weapons will be ensured.

The Advisor added that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is determined to find a permanent and sustainable resolution to the decades-old dispute. Efforts led by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and the Grand Jirga have brought the resolution of the conflict within reach.

He also highlighted that the Commissioner of Kohat and the entire administration are sincerely working toward ending the conflict and achieving lasting peace. The Chief Minister has dedicated his helicopter for relief efforts, ensuring the delivery of medicines and providing air transport services to the public.
