No Formal Communication from PTI on Dialogue Despite Negotiation Committee Formation: Sanaullah

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and federal minister Rana Sanaullah revealed on Friday that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has yet to formally communicate with the government regarding initiating dialogue, despite claims of forming a negotiation committee.

In an effort to ease political tensions and promote reconciliation amidst PTI’s warnings of civil disobedience, both parties had reportedly agreed to engage through parliamentary channels. PTI announced a five-member negotiation team comprising Omar Ayub Khan, Ali Amin Gandapur, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Salman Akram Raja, and Asad Qaiser.

However, according to Sanaullah, no official message has been received from PTI to initiate discussions.

Criticizing PTI’s approach, Sanaullah noted that the party’s stance towards the government remains unchanged, saying, “They continue to question why we should engage in dialogue with them.”

Speaking during a segment of Geo News’ program “Geo Pakistan,” Sanaullah emphasized PML-N’s commitment to resolving political issues through negotiations. He highlighted that even during their time in opposition, the PML-N proposed a “Charter of Economy” to address the country’s challenges collectively.

Sanaullah assured that the PML-N remains open to dialogue, stating, “If PTI reaches out, we will not refuse talks.” He also mentioned that previous efforts to communicate with PTI had been made before their so-called “final call.” However, he clarified that there had been no discussions concerning the release of PTI’s leader.

Touching on the controversial events of May 9, which saw violent protests following the arrest of PTI chairman Imran Khan, Sanaullah questioned why PTI had not issued an apology or accepted responsibility. Denying involvement will only worsen the divide.”*

The government has consistently held PTI accountable for the attacks on public and military infrastructure during the protests. Despite this, reports of recent meetings between PTI leaders and National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq have raised hopes for renewed dialogue. Sanaullah acknowledged the development but expressed skepticism given PTI’s past actions.
