Committee Formed to Amend Judges’ Code of Conduct Under Justice Muneeb Akhtar’s Leadership

Islamabad:
The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) has taken a significant step by forming a committee, led by Justice Muneeb Akhtar, to propose amendments to the Judges’ Code of Conduct.

The meeting, chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi, was attended by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Muneeb Akhtar, Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court Aamer Farooq, and Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court Hashim Kakar.

According to the official statement, the matter of revising the Judges’ Code of Conduct was a key agenda item. The committee, under Justice Akhtar’s leadership, will draft recommendations for the proposed amendments.

During the session, the council reviewed 35 individual complaints filed against judges. Of these, 30 complaints were dismissed, while responses have been sought for the remaining five. The statement did not disclose specific details or the names of judges involved in the complaints.

This development marks a proactive move towards refining judicial ethics and accountability in Pakistan.
