Karachi Web Desk) – In a significant move to enhance road safety and streamline vehicular regulations, Sindh’s Senior Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, has announced several key decisions taken under the leadership of Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
During a press conference, Memon revealed that the government has implemented stricter regulations for all heavy vehicles, including mandatory fitness certifications. Any vehicle failing to meet the prescribed fitness standards will not be allowed on the roads.
Key Decisions Announced:
🔹 Heavy Vehicle Fitness & Registration: The government is prioritizing inspections of heavy vehicles, including trailers, tankers, buses, and dumpers. Vehicles without a valid fitness certificate will be prohibited from operating.
🔹 License Plate Distribution: The Excise Department has 80,000 number plates ready for collection, but many vehicle owners have not yet claimed them. Owners are urged to collect their plates to avoid legal complications and penalties.
🔹 Water Tanker Barcode System: The Water Board has introduced a barcode system for registered water tankers. Only tankers meeting the fitness criteria will receive a barcode. Unregistered and non-compliant vehicles will be seized.
🔹 Fitness Deadline for Heavy Vehicles: Heavy traffic operators have been given 30 days to obtain fitness certificates. Even vehicles entering Sindh from other provinces must secure certification from Sindh authorities. Certificates issued in Punjab, Balochistan, or Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will not be valid in Sindh.
🔹 Zero Tolerance for Unregistered Vehicles: The government has intensified its crackdown on unregistered vehicles. Car showrooms are now legally required to register vehicles before selling them. Any showroom violating this rule will be sealed, and non-compliant vehicles will be impounded.
🔹 Strict Action on Open Display of Weapons: The display of firearms is now strictly prohibited, except for uniformed police officers. Any private or government security personnel found violating this law will face legal action.
🔹 Ban on Unauthorized Sirens & Police Lights: The use of police lights, sirens, and hooters on private and unauthorized government vehicles is now illegal. Sellers have been given two days to remove such items from their inventory. Starting Monday, any vehicle found using these unauthorized accessories will be seized, and shops selling them will be shut down.
🔹 Crackdown on Fake Number Plates & Underage Drivers: The government is intensifying efforts to regulate driving licenses. Individuals caught driving without a valid license will face immediate arrest. Parents are also urged to prevent their underage children from driving, as legal consequences will be enforced.
Revised Heavy Traffic Timings
The timing for heavy traffic entry into Karachi has been adjusted. Previously, dumpers and other heavy vehicles were allowed from 11 PM to 6 AM. This has now been changed to 10 PM to 6 AM to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion. However, all heavy vehicles must clear the roads by 7 AM to avoid disruption during school and office rush hours.
Memon emphasized that no unregistered dumper will be allowed on city roads. Additionally, a valid fitness certificate is mandatory for all heavy vehicles.
End of Paid Parking System
In a surprising move, Sindh government has abolished all charged parking systems across Karachi, whether operated by KMC or DMCs. While a regulated system may be introduced later, for now, no one will be required to pay for parking. However, vehicles parked illegally will be penalized.
The Sindh government remains committed to ensuring road safety and effective traffic regulation. These new measures aim to reduce accidents, streamline vehicle registration, and enhance public convenience.
Stay informed and compliant to avoid penalties and ensure a safer road experience for all!
