Sindh Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla Chairs Implementation Meeting
Karachi Web Desk: In a significant development, the Provincial Minister for Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control, Mukesh Kumar Chawla, chaired an implementation meeting to streamline motor vehicle taxes and traffic law enforcement in Sindh. The meeting was attended by Secretary Excise Muhammad Saleem Rajput, DIG Traffic Police Karachi Ahmed Nawaz, and representatives from the National Highway Authority (NHA) and Safe City Project.
Key Highlights of the Meeting:
- Unified Approach for Fines and Taxes
Mukesh Kumar Chawla emphasized the need for a collaborative strategy to simplify the payment of motor vehicle taxes and fines for traffic violations. A joint framework will ensure efficiency and better compliance among vehicle owners. - One-Window Operation Initiative
To facilitate citizens, Chawla proposed setting up dedicated counters at Civic and Facilitation Centers for traffic police services. He also recommended expanding these counters across Sindh for better accessibility. - Timely Distribution of New Number Plates
The minister directed traffic police to ensure that vehicles receive the newly designed “Ajrak” number plates within the stipulated timeframe. These plates will be the only ones valid in Sindh after April 3, 2025. - Enhanced Checkpoints and Staff Deployment
Traffic police personnel will be strategically deployed at road checkpoints to ensure compliance with vehicle registration and number plate issuance. - Integrated System for Tax and Fine Collection
Chawla called for the integration of motor vehicle registration (MVR) taxes and traffic fines into a unified online system. This system will enable users to settle all dues from a single point, enhancing convenience and efficiency. - Support for Pending Cases
The Excise Department’s record of unpaid fines will assist the traffic police in addressing pending challans. Vehicle transfers and tax payments will soon be conditional on the clearance of outstanding fines. - Immediate Proposals for Implementation
Chawla instructed Secretary Excise Muhammad Saleem Rajput to promptly prepare a detailed proposal for the plan’s execution.
