Pakistan's Politics: A Glance Towards the U.S., Says Jamaat-e-Islami Chief

Lahore Web Desk:
Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, the leader of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, has criticized both the government and opposition for their reliance on the United States. Speaking in Lahore, he highlighted the challenges facing the country and called for genuine leadership dedicated to the people’s welfare.

He alleged that Washington supports Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza and props up authoritarian regimes in Muslim countries to secure its own interests.

“The United States stands with dictators and monarchs in Islamic nations, ensuring their allegiance to American agendas,” Hafiz Naeem said. He emphasized that while Pakistan’s government and opposition continue to look to the U.S. for direction, Jamaat-e-Islami remains committed to championing democratic principles and the people’s rule.

Nationwide Protests Against Rising Electricity Tariffs

The Jamaat-e-Islami chief announced plans to reorganize a mass protest movement aimed at protecting citizens’ rights. He revealed that on January 17, nationwide demonstrations would take place to demand reductions in electricity tariffs, which have burdened ordinary Pakistanis.

Hafiz Naeem also pointed fingers at Pakistan’s major political players, including the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He accused them of enabling Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to exploit the nation, leaving its economy in shambles.

A Call for Accountability

Highlighting the plight of the common man, Hafiz Naeem criticized the ruling elite for their inaction and misplaced priorities. “The government and opposition have turned a blind eye to the struggles of the people while safeguarding their own interests with policies favoring IPPs,” he said.

Jamaat-e-Islami reaffirmed its commitment to bringing about meaningful change and standing against corruption, exploitation, and foreign influence.
