Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon Orders Swift Removal of Barriers and Acceleration of Work on Red Line BRT
Karachi Web Desk: Sindh’s Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon presided over a high-level meeting focused on the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. The meeting was attended by prominent officials, including Secretary of Transport Asad Zaman, Chairman Planning and Development Najam Shah, Karachi Commissioner Hassan Naqvi, TransKarachi CEO Tariq Manzoor Sheikh, and other key stakeholders. Representatives from the Asian Development Bank and international consultants also participated online.
Key Highlights of the Meeting:
- Addressing Challenges: The three-hour-long discussion focused on resolving the challenges hindering the Red Line BRT project. Specific issues included delays caused by the relocation of utilities such as water supply lines, K-Electric infrastructure, and telecommunications installations.
- Progress Updates: The construction activities in Lots 1 and 2 were reviewed, with project contractors providing updates on the ongoing work. TransKarachi CEO Tariq Manzoor Chandio briefed the participants on the implementation challenges, pointing out insufficient efforts by utility providers in relocating their facilities.
- Deadlines Set: Minister Memon issued a strict five-day deadline for all stakeholders to resolve the issues and ensure uninterrupted progress on the project. He emphasized that any further delays, particularly those linked to the K-IV water project and K-Electric infrastructure adjustments, are unacceptable.
Minister’s Directives:
- Work Acceleration: To speed up construction, the minister directed that work should continue in three shifts—morning, evening, and night—ensuring 24-hour activity at the sites.
- Coordination with Aviation Authority: Instructions were also given to initiate contact with the Civil Aviation Authority for work near the airport.
- Timely Completion: “Delays in the Red Line BRT project will not be tolerated,” emphasized the minister. We must complete this work ahead of schedule,” stressed Minister Memon.
